By integrating yoga postures into stories, children can practise yoga in a more imaginative and creative way. It is an effective tool to maintain concentration and to help them to express themselves through their bodies. Using stories and visualizations is also an effective method to help children concentrate in the relaxation part of the class. Stories adapted for yoga are like yoga series and they give a clear defined structure to your classes, and as well as maintaining the interest of your pupils, they are educational.
This workshop offers more than 30 yoga /relaxation stories of all kinds, from traditional or classic tales to modern stories from all over the world. The workshop will give you the confidence to adapt stories, even create your own stories and visualizations and it will give you an insight into how to tell stories the Indian way, using mudras.
Practical part: experience a couple of yoga story classes as students; in small groups teach a yoga story/a relaxation story and adapt a story for yoga; play games and do exercises for coordination and balance; do fun activities using pictures, cartoons, music, musical instruments, drawing, word games, circle games, Playmobile figures, balloons, Pilates balls and so on to develop your imagination and your creativity, your self-expression and memory. Lots of stories, games, dancing, music and fun!
Theoretical part: what is yoga for kids? What do kids like? What do they need at each stage of life? What kinds of stories are appropriate to teach yoga and to relax with? What problems come up in a yoga class with children? How do you recycle what the children are learning in a fun way? And many other questions…which we will deal with in a fun, alternative way.
